Peter Knudsen comes to us from a Danish family that has been in the tanning business for over 150 years. He was "imported" to the United States in 1977, leaving Denmark as a 5th generation heir of the tanning dynasty.

The finest American leather producing corporations brought him to the U.S. where his expertise was simply not available. After working for many years as technical director for major U.S. leather producers, he opened his first store in New Hampshire.

Helle Knudsen, a professional model, has an exceptional talent for decorating and hosting. She dreamed of having her own store and having the opportunity to help others find the perfect gift that they could give with a good feeling.

In 1993, the Knudsens, Peter and his wife Helle, opened the Sheepskin and Leather Collection, a delightful leather and gift "boutique" in the natural surroundings of Los Patios. Since opening the San Antonio location, they have expanded three-fold. Not only are they the ultimate retailer for the finest and most unusual leather goods, they have compiled a handsome selection hard-to-find products for the discriminating buyer. This includes items from the bridal collections, leather garments and small leather goods, to the music of Marshall Styler. It also includes exclusive handcrafted items found no where else, such as the Comfort do Brazil beach chair covers, and Italian-made leather belts with the State of Texas insignia.

The Knudsens have been happily married more than 32 years. They have a 28-year-old daughter teaching elementary school in Denmark, and a 25-year-old son with a cartography career in Austin, Texas. You won't miss photos of the Knudsen's granddaughter proudly on display near the checkout counter in the store. Their love for each other and for life is contagious as you get to know them over time and visits to the gallery.

Meeting the Knudsens will add warmth to your shopping experience; you can't enter the store without personal attention from Helle or Peter.
